Music Industry Research Proposal

Topic:
How are female acts represented in the Pop genre? Is this a good or bad representation and how does it affect up and coming female Pop acts?

Reason for choosing this topic:
I will be able to use lots of examples to back up facts or opinions, and i think the topic is interesting and a widely talked about and debated over subject within the music industry/students.

What do you expect to find out?
What type representation seems to be most common, and if this affects how successful the artist becomes - so does it affect new artists? Also, if the representation has changed much over the past 10 or so years. I suspect most acts will be a bad representation of females, as main pop acts i see don't seem respectful of their bodies or femininity.

How will it help develop understanding for the Year 13 coursework?
It will help me understand the conventions of the Pop genre of music - artists in the video, which could help me in my making of my video, however the music I'm using is not pop. Also, within the music industry, it would show how pop influences and encourages things from new acts and generations.

How will you express your findings?
PowerPoint presentation with video examples o blog work if i can't use PowerPoint. Words and music video examples.

What research will you carry out?
- Questionnaires
- Charts (Singles/Albums/Success rates of artists)
