Music Video I Like

"Like A Boss" - Lonely Island

This video by the Lonely Island is quite popular, and i like it because of its funny side. Its a conventional music video mostly, though probably has some unconventional traits like the giant fish towards the end. The lyrics and visual relationship is very strong, which is mailny why i like it, as the lyrics are unusual and in a way "funny" making the video also unusual/funny. The lyrics are the main part of the song, as the music behind the lyrics isn't very loud or prominent. The Lonely Island is american based, and specialise in comedic shorts and music parodies. They have also recorded a full-length television pilot. The video amuses me, along with their other ones "I'm On A Boat" and "Jizz In My Pants".

Conventional Music Video

"To Take Over, The Break's Over" - Fall Out Boy

This music video, by Fall Out Boy contains most of the expected traits of a music video for a band of their style. Fall Out Boy are considered a Pop Punk band, and the usual features of this genre's music video is focusing on the band and the music, which this video does by capturing the band performing their song to fans, but with the twist of it being the dog's dream. However, the dog seems to be owned by a member of the band, so it all ties back to the band. The music fits with the video as we see them playing the song we hear.
There are also lots of close up and focus on the artist, as towards the middle we see fan's "dissing" the band because the song was on their 2nd album, and obviously many people thought they had changed for worse, so the video concentrated on demonstrating it was a good change. It also shows the bands weath/fame/fortune and skills with the women, as there is an expensive looking car in the background, and the use of women dancers, dressed in skimpy dance outfits dancing "sexily" towards the band. Some of the lyrics also match to the video "flash flash flash photography" lyrics match the setting as they seem to be in a photographing suite or somewhere similar. And the "We don't fight fair" line could reference to the fan's reaction to the band's new album, as demonstrated in the video.

Unonventional Music Video

"Africa Shox" - Aphex Twin/Chris Cunningham

This is an unconventional music video in a few ways. The footsteps at the start of the video don't match the beat, they are just random. However the sirens in the background are shown from a police car, though this isn't part of the music, as is the walkie talkie voice. The setting also doesnt match the name of the film, as it's called "AFRICA shox" (as are the lyrics at the start when they say "africa")yet is set in an urban part of New York. The artist/DJ for this peice isn't shown in the video, so the video isn't set around him, and does not promote his identity. Even though its sort of dance/trance/dub-step music, the setting and actions don't play with the conventional ideas of that genre; there are no half naked women, and no dancing throughout the video. There also doesn't seem to be riches or extravogant belongings associated with the main person in the video, as he is homeless.
The man's movements don't coincide with the song, and as he wanders through the streets of downtown New York.
